AmeriCorps in Missouri

Since 1994, more than 17,000 Missourians have served in AmeriCorps, providing over 24 million hours of service equal to over $616 million in service time to Missouri communities. AmeriCorps programs receive three year funding grants to recruit and supervise AmeriCorps Members who will serve up to a year in their community.

2025-2026 AmeriCorps Programs

Partnership for Youth, Inc., doing business as AmeriCorps St. Louis, will have 46 full-time AmeriCorps Members per year on its Emergency Response Team who will provide disaster services through mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery interventions across communities within Missouri and, when requested, across the country; provide environmental stewardship service interventions to local, state, and federal public lands in Missouri to benefit the conservation and ecological vitality of natural areas; and will obtain industry-level trainings and credentials to support future careers in emergency management and conservation with local, state, federal and nonprofit partners regionally and nationally. At the end of their first program year, AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for providing disaster assistance to 3,000 individuals; will enhance the environmental quality and user access of 13,000 acres of public lands, and 100% of Corps members will obtain industry-recognized credentials and work-readiness skills.

The Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA) will have 31 AmeriCorps Members who will provide access to preventative mental health services in the form of therapeutic counseling, case-management and community education in the Kansas City metro area. At the end of the program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for serving over 300 children and caregivers through trauma-focused counseling, case-management, and community education.

City Year Kansas City proposes to have 45 AmeriCorps members who will provide full-day education services to students in eight public schools in Kansas City, Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for mentoring 440 students, of which 92 will improve literacy skills, 68 will improve math skills, and 220 will develop social-emotional skills. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 240 volunteers who will be engaged in projects in our schools and on national days of service.

The Emmanuel Family & Child Development Center will welcome 50 AmeriCorps members dedicated to enhancing school readiness by providing specialized educational support, trauma-informed counseling, and occupational and speech therapy services in central Kansas City, Missouri. By the end of the program year, these AmeriCorps members will have impacted over 300 children through classroom support, speech therapy, and clinical counseling.

The Kansas City Public Library will have 30 AmeriCorps members in Jackson County, MO. AmeriCorps members will engage in bridging social cohesion and social connection activities such as community outreach, branch programming, and one-on-one engagement and referral. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 55 volunteers who will be engaged in creating positive connections with the Library patrons.

Mission: St. Louis proposes to have 31 AmeriCorps Members who will serve in Beyond School by strengthening partnerships with student families and community partners and directly serving youth in partner schools: St. Louis Language Immersion School, Lafayette Preparatory Academy, and Kairos Academies. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for improving the academic performance of 160 K-8th graders in need of learning recovery.

The Missouri College Advising Corps (MCAC) will have 35 AmeriCorps Members who will provide college and career readiness advisement services to underrepresented students in 45 partner high schools within 30 school districts across Missouri. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for meeting one-on-one with seniors to help them identify, apply to, and enroll in a “best fit” postsecondary option and, ultimately, increase postsecondary attainment rates among students in partner high schools.

The Missouri State Public Defender (MSPD) will have 20 AmeriCorps members that will provide mitigation advocacy and connect MSPD clients to community resources that address the underlying factors leading to their involvement with the criminal legal system, which will lead to better outcomes in their cases and increase their opportunities for social and economic mobility. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for connecting clients to 3,000 total community resources.

Poplar Bluff R-I School District

The Poplar Bluff R-I School District will have 36 AmeriCorps Members who will tutor during & after school in seven elementary, middle & junior high schools. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for 525 students starting the program & 383 students with improved academic performance. In addition, the AmeriCorps Members will leverage 68 volunteers who will be engaged in supporting Member activities in direct service, including tutoring, special program interventions, & enrichments.

Teach For America – Kansas City (TFA-KC) will have 55 AmeriCorps members in Kansas City, Missouri. AmeriCorps members will teach for two years in low-income and under resourced schools in Kansas City. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing the academic achievement of the over 3,300 students they teach.

The University of Missouri- Kansas City (UMKC) Lift As You Climb program will have 36 AmeriCorps Members who will serve to assist with increasing persistence and completion for students at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri. At the end of the first program year, students will experience ease of transition into the culture of academia, as well as an increase in class enrollment, sense of belonging, and awareness and utilization of support services.

United Way of Southeast Missouri, Inc. (UWSEMO) will place 15 AmeriCorps members in Cape Girardeau, MO, who will serve the MO counties of Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Scott, and Perry. These AmeriCorps members will help families secure affordable and reliable childcare, connect them to wraparound services to support self-sufficiency and expand childcare resources, enabling parents to enter or remain in the workforce and ultimately secure or retain stable employment and sustainable income. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for assisting 100 individuals to secure or retain employment.

The Waynesville AmeriCorps Program will have 32 AmeriCorps members in the Waynesville, Saint Robert, and Fort Leonard Wood communities as well as smaller neighboring communities of Missouri. AmeriCorps members will be responsible for increasing the academic achievement of students by providing support through tutoring and mentoring programs in grades PreK-8. AmeriCorps members will also be responsible for providing supplemental food assistance to reduce food insecurity for students in the Waynesville R-VI School District. The implementation of these programs will be done through the member and volunteer-supported tutoring services and mentoring programs offered both during the school day and within the after-school setting.
