Leading with a strength in workforce development programming, ACSTL will explore the addition of home repair and weatherization service activities. Repairs required after severe storms, tornadoes or floods often leave low-income and uninsured Missouri residents displaced, waiting for resources to return their homes to safe and sanitary conditions. ACSTL will form partnerships with government agencies and nonprofits serving vulnerable populations in impacted areas.

Developing a proposal to implement, MO AWARE – Missouri AmeriCorps Wellness & Afterschool Resilience Education, a youth mental health corps project. The project will use near peer, recent high school and college graduates as additional staff in afterschool programs with a focus on providing SEL programming and mental health supports.

AmeriCorps members will connect MSPD clients to community and peer resources that address the underlying factors leading to their involvement with the criminal legal system and provide mitigation advocacy in their cases, leading to better legal outcomes and increased opportunities for social and economic mobility.

The Poplar Bluff school district will have 39 AmeriCorps Members who will tutor in six schools (four elementary, middle, and junior high schools). At the end of the first program year, 392 students will have improved academic performance.

Increasing the academic achievement of over 2,475 students they teach. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage 265 volunteers who will be engaged in classroom tasks such as organizing materials, supervising students during activities, and supporting 1-1 and small group instruction.

The Waynesville AmeriCorps Program will have 37 AmeriCorps members in the Waynesville, Saint Robert, and Fort Leonard Wood communities as well as neighboring communities of Missouri. AmeriCorps members will help students to increase in academic achievement by providing support through tutoring and mentoring programs in grades PreK-8.
